MellowHype

MellowHype was an American hip-hop duo formed within the Odd Future collective in Los Angeles, consisting of rapper Hodgy Beats and producer-rapper Left Brain (Vyron Turner). Emerging in the late 2000s alongside Tyler, the Creator and other members of the Wolf Gang, the duo built a name through a raw, lo-fi aesthetic that mixed abrasive punchlines with dense, murky production, drawing on grime, boom-bap and horrorcore textures.

Their catalog includes mixtapes such as BlackenedWhite and Numbers, released independently and through Odd Future Records, which cemented their cult following before Odd Future became a mainstream phenomenon. Tracks like «64», «Loaded» and «CopKiller» showcase their trademark tension between Hodgy's rapid-fire, confrontational delivery and Left Brain's murky, sample-heavy beats.

MellowHype operated largely outside of the polished pop sensibilities of later Odd Future output, instead leaning into an underground, DIY ethos. The duo's work helped define the gritty early sound of the collective before its members pursued increasingly divergent solo paths.
