Mecna

Mecna, the stage name of Corrado Grilli, born March 26, 1987, is an Italian rapper, singer-songwriter and graphic designer who grew up in Foggia. He got his start in the early 2000s with the crew Microphones Killarz alongside Lustro and Nasty, releasing the album No Problem in 2005, the same year he put out his first solo mixtape, 343 Km, then working under the alias Mec Namara before shortening it to Mecna on the advice of fellow rapper Ghemon. In 2009 he co-founded the Rome-based collective Blue Nox Academy, and alongside music he built a parallel career as a graphic designer, creating cover art for numerous Italian and international artists.

His debut studio album, Disco Inverno, arrived in 2012 on Macro Beats, establishing him within Italy's underground rap scene. The 2015 follow-up Laska marked a decisive stylistic shift toward electronic-leaning production, moving away from traditional rap textures with the help of producers Iamseife and Lvnar and guitarist Alessandro Cianci, collaborators who continued to shape his sound in the studio and on stage.

In 2018 Mecna left Macro Beats to sign with major label Universal, continuing to blend rap, pop, R&B and electronic influences in a melodic, atmospheric style. Songs such as «31/07», «31/08» and «Neverland» reflect this introspective, mood-driven approach that has made him one of the more distinctive voices in contemporary Italian rap.
