Matt OX

Matt Ox is an American rapper from Philadelphia who rose to online prominence as a teenager with the 2017 single «Overwhelming», a track notable both for its hypnotic, bass-heavy production and for the striking novelty of a rapper achieving viral success at such a young age. His sound sits at the intersection of rap, electronic and R&B, favoring dark, minimal beats and melodic, often pitched vocal delivery that reflects the influence of the Philadelphia underground scene.

He has worked closely with the Philadelphia production collective Working on Dying, whose atmospheric, trap-adjacent sound shaped much of his early catalogue. His profile grew further after a 2018 feature on XXXTentacion’s album ?, on the track «$$$», exposing him to a wider hip-hop audience. His debut album, OX, released in October 2018 and executive-produced by Working on Dying, capped off a run of singles known as «Oxtober» and featured collaborators such as Chief Keef, KEY! and Valee.

Matt Ox continued to build his catalogue with the 2020 mixtape SWEET 16, the UNORTHODOX EP released in February 2021, and his second studio album, YEAR OF THE OX, rolled out track by track throughout January 2022 as his first independent release, featuring guest appearances from UnoTheActivist and Lancey Foux. Songs like «Pull Up», «Jetlag», «Ya Dig», «Zero Degrees», «Michael Myers», «Tesla» and «This N That» showcase his continued evolution from viral teenage novelty into a more assured voice in melodic, electronic-inflected rap.
