Mata

Mata, born Michał Matczak in Wrocław and raised in Warsaw, is a Polish rapper and songwriter who rose to prominence in the late 2010s as part of a new generation of Polish hip-hop artists. He debuted with the EP «Fumar Mata» in 2018, later reissued under HHNS Label, which caught the attention of SBM Label founders Solar and Białas and led to his inclusion in the label’s SBM Starter initiative for promoting young talent.

Mata’s breakthrough came with the single «Patointeligencja», a track exploring dysfunction and addiction among affluent, well-educated youth — a theme that resonated widely and brought him mainstream and international attention, including features on major streaming editorial playlists. His lyrics are known for their literary, essayistic quality, reflecting his own academic background, blending observational storytelling with the sound of contemporary Polish trap and rap production.

As one of the most talked-about young voices in Polish rap, Mata has been credited with bringing a more introspective, socially observant style to a scene often associated with flashier trap tropes, while still operating comfortably within its sonic conventions.
