About the artist
Marracash, born Fabio Bartolo Rizzo in Sicily and raised in Milan’s Barona district, is one of Italy’s most influential rap artists. He emerged from Milan’s Muretto scene in the late 1990s, initially performing under the alias Juza delle Nuvole, before adopting the Marracash moniker — a play on a childhood nickname referencing his dark complexion combined with the English word for money. He co-founded the Dogo Gang collective alongside Club Dogo and other Muretto-era figures, helping shape the sound of Milanese street rap.
His 2008 self-titled debut album, featuring the single «Badabum Cha Cha», announced him as a major voice in Italian hip-hop, blending sharp, socially conscious lyricism with commercial appeal. Across the following decade he built a reputation for introspective, often confessional writing, tackling themes of identity, mental health, and fame with unusual candor for the genre.
Marracash has remained a central figure in Italian rap through both solo work and collaborations, including a notable joint album with fellow rapper Guè. His later projects show a willingness to experiment conceptually, pairing dense lyrical content with varied, contemporary production, and he is widely credited with helping push Italian rap toward greater artistic ambition and mainstream legitimacy.
