Markul, born Markas Markulis, is a Russian rap artist born in Riga, Latvia, who spent part of his childhood in Khabarovsk, Russia, before moving to London at age twelve. Growing up immersed in London's grime and UK hip-hop scenes, he became a fan of rappers like Giggs and eventually joined the group Tribe. His time in London also connected him with Oxxxymiron, with whom he recorded an early collaborative track.

Markul gained wider recognition in Russia with the release of «Сухим из воды», accompanied by a music video that helped establish his name. He was previously affiliated with the Booking Machine creative collective, working alongside other prominent Russian-language rap artists.

His music is defined by a dark, introspective tone rather than the bright, celebratory style common in mainstream rap—his lyrics dwell on hardship, alienation and difficult life experiences, delivered over moody, atmospheric production. Tracks such as «Fata Morgana», «Последний билет», «Худший друг» and «Серпантин» reflect this brooding aesthetic, which has made him a distinctive voice within the Russian hip-hop scene, standing apart through his UK-influenced background and melancholic songwriting approach.
