Maes

Maes, born Walid Georgey, is a French rapper of Moroccan descent from Sevran, in the Paris suburbs. He grew up in the Beaudottes neighborhood and started rapping as a teenager, later serving time in prison, an experience that shaped much of his early writing, including the track «Mama». After his release he built momentum with a series of mixtapes and freestyles before releasing his debut album, «Pure», in 2018, which became a commercial success and cemented his place among the leading names in French rap.

His sound blends trap-influenced production with melodic, often melancholic hooks, and street narratives drawn from his own life, incarceration, and the realities of the banlieue. He is known for a distinctive raspy delivery and a knack for crafting hits that combine hard-edged storytelling with radio-friendly melody, as heard on songs like «Madrina», «Blanche», and «Distant».

Maes has collaborated with major figures in French rap and has released further albums following «Pure», continuing to explore themes of loyalty, struggle, and success. He remains one of the defining voices of the post-2018 wave of French rap that merged trap aesthetics with emotionally direct lyricism.
