Lowkey

Lowkey is a British hip-hop artist and political activist from London, known for combining sharp lyricism with outspoken commentary on war, imperialism, and social justice. He emerged from the UK underground rap scene in the 2000s, gaining a reputation for both his technical skill on the mic and the explicitly political content of his music, tackling topics such as the Iraq War, Palestine, and civil liberties.

His 2011 independent album Soundtrack to the Struggle was a significant achievement for an artist working outside the major label system, charting across several UK charts including the R&B, Indie, Download, and overall Albums charts. He has collaborated with a wide range of artists across genres and causes, including Immortal Technique, Wretch 32, Akala, and Dead Prez, and was part of the supergroup Mongrel, a collaboration with members of Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles, and Reverend and the Makers that released the album Better than Heavy in 2009.

Lowkey followed up with Soundtrack to the Struggle 2, an album featuring contributions from figures like Noam Chomsky, Frankie Boyle, and Ken Loach, reflecting his continued commitment to using music as a vehicle for political commentary. Songs like «Terrorist» and «Long Live Palestine» exemplify his approach: dense, urgent verses paired with unapologetic advocacy, making him one of the more distinctive voices in politically engaged British hip-hop.
