Lil Durk, born Durk Derrick Banks on October 19, 1992, is a rapper, singer, and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois, recognized as one of the pioneering figures of the drill movement that emerged from the city in the early 2010s. He began his career with a string of mixtapes, including I’m a Hitta and the Signed to the Streets series, which established his melodic yet street-hardened sound blending sung hooks with hard-edged bars about violence, loyalty, and loss.

As founder of the label and collective Only the Family (OTF), Durk has served as a mentor figure for a generation of Chicago artists while building his own catalog of albums that mix vulnerability with grit. His music is marked by an emotive, almost melancholic delivery that set him apart from more aggressive drill peers, often reflecting on the toll of street life and personal loss, themes explored across tracks like «India» and «Home Body».
