About the artist
Lil B, born Brandon Christopher McCartney in Berkeley, California, is one of the most influential and prolific figures to emerge from internet-era hip-hop. He first gained attention as a member of the Bay Area group The Pack, known for the hyphy-adjacent hit «Vans», before launching a solo career defined by an almost unmatched work rate — dozens of mixtapes released over just a few years.
Lil B is widely credited as a pioneer of what came to be called cloud rap, a hazy, atmospheric strand of hip-hop built on ambient, reverb-heavy production. His pairing with producer Clams Casino on tracks like «I’m God» became touchstones of the sound, and his stream-of-consciousness, often surreal lyrical style — mixing braggadocio, humor, and unexpected vulnerability — set him apart from more conventional rap at the time.
