About the artist
Lacrim, born Karim Zenoud on April 19, 1985, is a French rapper of Algerian descent whose stage name is a contraction referencing «la police criminelle». He began building his career through collaborations with fellow rapper Mister You, whom he met in prison, before launching his solo career in earnest with his 2012 debut album Faites Entrer Lacrim.
His career has been marked by a string of well-received projects, including Toujours Le Même and Né Pour Mourir, followed by periods of incarceration that repeatedly interrupted his output. Despite this, releases like the album Corleone and the R.I.P.R.O mixtape series continued to perform strongly commercially, reflecting his hard-edged, street-rooted style within French rap.
Lacrim's music is characterized by dark, cinematic themes often drawing on his own turbulent life story, gangster-film references and a gritty delivery, evident in tracks like «Gustavo Gaviria» and «Corleone». His public struggles, including the #FreeLacrim movement that emerged in 2013, became intertwined with his artistic identity, reinforcing his image as one of French rap's most authentic and uncompromising voices.
