L'A Capone

L'A Capone was a Chicago rapper and one of the founding voices of the drill music movement that emerged from the city's South Side in the early 2010s. Affiliated with the Black Disciples gang's «600» set, he began releasing music independently in 2012 and quickly became known within the local scene for his aggressive, unpolished street narratives set to dark, minimal drill production.

His breakout single «Play for Keeps», featuring RondoNumbaNine, released in July 2013, became one of the defining anthems of the early Chicago drill sound and helped cement the genre's national visibility alongside contemporaries like Chief Keef. Capone's career was tragically cut short when he was shot and killed in September 2013 at just seventeen years old, shortly after that single's release.

He never lived to release a full mixtape, but his catalogue was expanded posthumously with the 2014 mixtape Separate Myself and its 2015 deluxe edition, along with the 2015 release King L'A compiled by his affiliates. Despite his brief career, L'A Capone remains a foundational and influential figure in the history of Chicago drill.
