Kontra K

Kontra K, born Maximilian Diehn in 1987 in Berlin, is a German rapper who built his identity around a fusion of hip-hop with martial-arts discipline and, later, rock and pop influences. A trained fighter himself, he draws heavily on combat sports as a metaphor and source of motivation in his lyrics, aiming, in his own words, to push listeners toward a disciplined, athletic mindset.

He emerged from Berlin's underground rap scene, associated early on with crews such as Perspektiflows and Vollkontakt, and released a string of independent EPs and collaborative projects, including work with Bonez MC, before expanding his sound into a broader, more radio-friendly mix of rap, rock and pop. Tracks like «Erfolg ist kein Glück», «Wölfe» and «Diamanten» reflect this shift toward anthemic, motivational songwriting.

Over time Kontra K became one of the most commercially successful German-language rap artists, known for chart-topping albums and a consistent message of perseverance, self-discipline and overcoming hardship. His crossover appeal, bridging hip-hop, rock instrumentation and pop hooks, has helped him reach audiences well beyond the traditional rap scene in Germany and Austria.
