Kodak Black, born Dieuson Octave (also known legally as Bill Kahan Kapri) on June 11, 1997, is a rapper from Pompano Beach, Florida. He began rapping as a preteen and built his reputation through Florida’s street-rap scene, releasing early mixtapes such as Project Baby and Heart of the Projects, the latter featuring his breakout single «No Flockin». His melodic, slurred delivery and blunt, autobiographical lyrics about poverty, violence and survival in South Florida became his signature style, distinguishing him within the SoundCloud-era wave of Florida rap.

His mainstream breakthrough came with «Tunnel Vision» and «Roll in Peace» featuring XXXTENTACION, tracks that showcased his ability to blend melodic hooks with raw street narratives. He has also crossed into pop and R&B-adjacent territory on songs like «ZEZE» with Travis Scott and Offset, and «SKRT», which gained early attention after Drake shared a video dancing to it on Instagram.

Kodak Black’s career has repeatedly intersected with legal troubles, which have shaped both his public narrative and periods of his output.
