KNEECAP

KNEECAP are an Irish-language rap trio from Belfast made up of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Provaí. The group built their identity around bilingual, code-switching lyrics that move fluidly between Irish and English, using the language itself as a political and cultural statement rooted in the experience of growing up in West Belfast. Their approach fuses hip-hop production with an unapologetically blunt, often comedic style, addressing themes of drug culture, working-class life, and Northern Irish politics with equal parts humor and defiance.

The group emerged with their debut single, C.E.A.R.T.A, in 2017, which drew attention in part after facing broadcast restrictions from Irish state radio. They followed with the mixtape 3CAG in 2018 and quickly built a reputation as a formidable live act, playing major Irish festivals and selling out shows in cities including Dublin and Galway. Their music has been credited with reinvigorating interest in the Irish language among younger audiences, presenting it not as a heritage obligation but as a living, rebellious voice.

KNEECAP have since expanded their profile internationally, gaining attention for their outspoken political stances and distinctive visual identity, including DJ Provaí's balaclava styled after the Irish tricolour. Their combination of linguistic activism, dark humor, and confrontational energy has made them one of the more distinctive acts to emerge from the Irish hip-hop scene in recent years.
