King Geedorah

King Geedorah is one of the many aliases of the late British-American rapper and producer MF DOOM, named after King Ghidorah, the three-headed monster from the Godzilla film series. The character was part of the loosely affiliated New York underground collective Monsta Island Czars, whose members took names from Toho's kaiju universe.

His sole full-length under the alias, «Take Me to Your Leader» (2003), stands apart from DOOM's other projects for its heavily instrumental, sample-collage approach: many tracks feature dialogue and audio clips from anime, kung-fu films and old cartoons woven around DOOM's dense, off-kilter production, with guest verses scattered throughout rather than functioning as a rapper-led album. Collaborators on the record included fellow MIC affiliates such as Gigan, Biolante, Jet Jaguar and Rodan, alongside other underground rap figures.

As with DOOM's other characters, King Geedorah let him explore a different creative persona and sonic palette outside his main identity, contributing to the mythology-building, mask-wearing approach that defined his career and cemented his influence on underground and alternative hip-hop.
