Каста (Kasta)

Kasta is a Russian-language rap group from Rostov-on-Don, formed in the late 1990s and known for its lineup including Vladi, Shym, Khamil, and Zmey. The group emerged from the wave of Russian rap crews of that era but distinguished itself with dense, multi-voiced tracks, sharp social commentary, and a lyrical style that balanced street realism with philosophical reflection.

Across a long discography that spans early releases like Gromche vody, vyshe travy through albums such as Byl v glaza, Chetyryokhglavy oryot, and Chernila os'minoga, Kasta developed a reputation for thoughtful songwriting and tight ensemble delivery, with multiple members trading verses within the same track to build layered narratives. Songs like «Na poryadok vyshe» and «Makarena» became widely known touchstones of Russian rap, while «Skrepy» and «Vokrug shum» reflect the group's continued engagement with social and political themes.

Beyond the group's joint output, individual members—particularly Vladi—built substantial solo careers, releasing multiple solo albums that expanded on the group's introspective and socially engaged songwriting. Kasta remains one of the most respected and longest-running acts in Russian hip hop, valued for its literary approach to lyrics and consistent evolution across more than two decades of recording.
