Kase.O

Kase.O, born Javier Ibarra Ramos in Zaragoza, Spain, is one of the most respected figures in Spanish-language hip hop. He began recording homemade tapes as a teenager in the mid-1990s, using the bathroom of his house for natural reverb, and quickly built a reputation through cassette trading and fanzines long before the internet made that easy. In 1998 he became the lead voice of Violadores del Verso, the Zaragoza crew that became one of the most influential groups in Spanish rap history, known for dense, technically intricate wordplay and socially conscious lyrics.

After Violadores del Verso went on hiatus without formally splitting, Kase.O launched a solo career that expanded his sound beyond boom-bap into jazz-influenced territory. His 2011 album Jazz Magnetism, built around live instrumentation and horn arrangements, reinterpreted classic tracks and brought a warmer, more musical texture to his rapping while keeping his rapid-fire, punchline-dense flow intact.

Kase.O is widely regarded as one of the most skilled lyricists in Spanish rap, admired for his wit, internal rhyme schemes, and ability to move between humor and introspection. Songs like «Mitad y Mitad» and «Viejos Ciegos» showcase the storytelling and wordplay that made him a reference point for generations of Spanish-speaking MCs across Spain and Latin America.
