Kano

Kano is a British rapper, singer and actor from East Ham in East London, one of the foundational voices of grime music since the genre's emergence in the early 2000s. He built his reputation through pirate radio sets and freestyles before releasing his debut mixtape Home Sweet Home, which established him as a lyrically dexterous MC with a distinctive, unhurried flow that set him apart from many of his more aggressive contemporaries.

His 2007 album London Town broadened his audience and showcased his ability to move between hard-edged grime and more melodic, soulful songwriting. Kano has long been associated with the wider grime scene, collaborating with artists such as Wiley and Jme, and has also pursued acting, appearing in television productions that reflect the same East London world his music draws from.

His 2016 album Made In The Manor is widely regarded as a high point of his catalogue, a personal and detailed portrait of his upbringing that helped cement his standing as one of grime's most respected elder statesmen. Across his career Kano has balanced street-level storytelling with introspection, influencing a generation of UK rappers while remaining a key link between grime's underground origins and its later mainstream acceptance.
