Kaliber 44

Kaliber 44 is a Polish hip-hop group formed in 1993 in Katowice, founded by brothers Michał "Joka" Marten and Marcin "AbradAb" Marten, later joined by Piotr "Magik" Łuszcz. The group is regarded as one of the most important acts in the history of Polish hip-hop, credited with pioneering a more introspective, philosophically and spiritually charged lyrical approach that set them apart from more street-oriented rap of the era.

Their early work, shaped heavily by Magik's distinctive, often melancholic and metaphysical writing style, tackled themes of existence, faith, morality and inner struggle, delivered over dark, atmospheric boom-bap production. Songs such as «Psychodela», «Moja obawa (bądź a klęknę)» and «Nasze mózgi wypełnione są Marią» reflect this introspective, almost poetic strand of Polish rap that influenced a generation of artists.

After Magik's departure from the group, Kaliber 44 continued and expanded into a live formation known as Baku Baku Skład, featuring the Marten brothers alongside additional musicians and DJs, moving the group's sound toward a more band-based, performance-driven hip-hop. Tracks like «Plus i minus (+ i -)» and «Film» remain touchstones of the group's catalogue, and Kaliber 44 is remembered as one of the best-selling and most influential rap acts to emerge from Poland in the 1990s.
