About the artist
Juicy J, born Jordan Michael Houston, is an American rapper, record producer, and songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee. He rose to prominence as a founding member of Three 6 Mafia, the group whose dark, horror-inflected sound helped define the Memphis rap scene and, more broadly, the trap and crunk styles that spread across Southern hip-hop from the 1990s onward.
As a member of Three 6 Mafia, Juicy J contributed to the group's raw, bass-heavy production and helped bring Memphis's underground rap sound to a national audience, an achievement recognized when the group won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for «It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp» from the film Hustle & Flow. Following the group's mainstream success, he built a prolific solo career and became an in-demand collaborator and mentor to a new generation of trap artists.
As a solo artist and producer, Juicy J became known for high-energy tracks built around hard-hitting 808s and hook-driven, party-oriented lyricism, with hits like «Bandz A Make Her Dance» bringing him renewed mainstream visibility in the 2010s. He is a longtime affiliate of Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang Records and has remained an influential figure bridging the classic Memphis rap sound with modern trap production.
