About the artist
JoeyAK, born Joël Hoop on January 7, 1997 in Amsterdam, is a Dutch rapper of Surinamese descent who has become one of the notable voices in the Dutch urban and street-rap scene. He began releasing music under the JoeyAK name in 2017, and his breakthrough came with «Touchdown», a collaboration with Jonna Fraser and Sevn Alias released later that year which reached the Dutch charts.
His 2018 debut album, «Luitenant», charted in the top five of the Dutch Album Top 100, establishing him as a serious presence in the country's rap landscape. He has since released further projects including «HHHK» and «Bodemboy & Most Wanted», the latter becoming his most-streamed release, and has collaborated with artists such as Esko, Josylvio, and Young Ellens, placing him within a close-knit network of Dutch street-rap acts.
JoeyAK's sound draws on the gritty, bass-heavy style typical of Dutch and Belgian street rap, with lyrics reflecting his Amsterdam upbringing and Surinamese-Dutch identity. He is also known for the number-one hit «HUTS», one of the biggest crossover successes to emerge from this scene, cementing his place among the Netherlands' prominent rap exports.
