Jimmy Dean

Jimmy Dean was an American country singer, television host, actor, and entrepreneur whose crossover 1961 hit «Big Bad John» made him one of the era's most recognizable voices, blending a spoken-word narrative style with a driving country-pop arrangement that carried it to the top of both country and pop charts.

Beyond recording, Dean became a fixture of American television, hosting a national program on CBS starting in the late 1950s and later The Jimmy Dean Show, which notably gave puppeteer Jim Henson and his character Rowlf an early national platform before Henson's Muppets became a household name. He also built an acting career, appearing in the Daniel Boone television series and taking a memorable supporting role as villain Willard Whyte opposite Sean Connery in the James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever.

Dean's other enduring legacy came outside music entirely: he founded the Jimmy Dean sausage brand, becoming its longtime television spokesman, so his voice and image remained familiar to American audiences long after his chart hits had faded.
