Jimmy Buffett

Jimmy Buffett (1946–2023) was an American singer-songwriter born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, best known for blending country, folk-rock, and Caribbean-influenced sounds into a laid-back style he himself called «Gulf and Western.» He began his career pursuing country music in Nashville before relocating to Key West, Florida, in the early 1970s, a move that reshaped his sound and persona around coastal, escapist themes.

His 1977 hit «Margaritaville» became a cultural touchstone, cementing his image as the poet laureate of beach-bum leisure and sparking a devoted fanbase known as «Parrotheads,» often seen at his concerts in Hawaiian shirts. Songs like «Cheeseburger in Paradise» and «Fins» extended this warm, humor-laced storytelling style, which he described as driven largely by instinct and comic timing rather than calculation. Over five decades he released more than two dozen albums and also became a successful author of bestselling books.

Buffett’s music occupies a distinctive niche between country, rock, and tropical folk, appealing to listeners drawn to relaxed, narrative songwriting about coastal life, wanderlust, and good humor. He continued recording and touring for most of his life, remaining a beloved figure until his death in 2023 at age 76.
