J.I.D, born Destin Choice Route on October 31, 1990, is an American rapper from Zone 6 in Atlanta, Georgia. His stage name derives from a childhood nickname, jittery, given to him by his grandmother. He attended Hampton University on a football scholarship, where he began recording music with friends, including early collaborations with the duo EARTHGANG, and released a string of independent mixtapes before breaking through publicly with DiCaprio 2 in 2018 under J. Cole's Dreamville Records.

J.I.D is known for dense, rapid-fire wordplay, complex rhyme schemes and a technically ambitious flow that has drawn comparisons to some of rap's most acclaimed lyricists. His albums, including The Never Story, DiCaprio 2 and The Forever Story, blend introspective storytelling about his upbringing and family with sharp battle-rap style bars, often over soulful, sample-heavy production.
