About the artist
Jesse Stewart (1990–2021) was a Canadian street musician who became an internet sensation in 2014 after a video of him performing his cover of «Cold Beer» went viral. Raised on the road, he learned guitar early and spent much of his life busking across Canada and the United States, favoring acoustic instrumentation and often accompanying himself on mandolin.
His sound resists a single label — critics and fans have filed his catalog under country, folk, blues, alternative rock and even the loosely defined «folk-punk» tag, reflecting the raw, unpolished energy of his live performances more than any studio polish. Because he rarely stayed in one town for long, much of his early material survives only through fan-shot YouTube videos rather than official releases.
Later in his career some of his original songs and covers reached digital platforms like iTunes and Spotify, introducing his work to a wider audience beyond the bars and small venues where he built his reputation. Stewart died in November 2021 at age 31. His legacy rests on the authenticity of his performances and the way a single viral clip turned a travelling busker into a cult favorite.
