Jerry Jeff Walker

Jerry Jeff Walker (born Ronald Clyde Crosby, March 16, 1942) was an American singer-songwriter best known as the author of «Mr. Bojangles», one of the most widely covered folk songs of the 20th century. After early years traveling and performing as a folk singer, he became a central figure of the outlaw country and progressive country movement that took shape in Austin, Texas, during the 1970s, helping build the city's reputation as an alternative hub to Nashville.

Walker's sound blended country, folk, and rock with a loose, storytelling sensibility, often celebrating the wandering, irreverent cowboy spirit of Texas life. His album «¡Viva Terlingua!», recorded with the Lost Gonzo Band, became a defining document of the progressive country scene, featuring songs like «London Homesick Blues», later adopted as an anthem for Texas identity, and «Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother». He was closely associated with contemporaries such as Willie Nelson and other figures of the Austin scene.
