Jaykae

Jaykae is a British grime MC from Birmingham, one of the artists who helped put the Midlands grime scene on the national map at a time when the genre was still dominated by London acts. He came up through battle culture and clash videos, building a reputation for sharp, aggressive bars before crossing into more mainstream visibility. His clash with Discarda on Lord of the Mics is often cited as a turning point that widened his audience beyond the local scene.

He is also remembered as one half of a well-regarded grime duo with Depzman, a pairing praised for chemistry and technical sharpness during grime's mid-2010s underground resurgence. After a period away from the spotlight, Jaykae returned with «Toothache», a track that reintroduced him to a much wider audience and became his first release to hit a million views, marking a clear comeback moment in his career.

His sound blends classic grime aggression with more melodic, radio-friendly song structures, which helped him transition from purely battle-oriented tracks to singles with broader crossover appeal, including his Fire in the Booth freestyle, a format widely used by UK MCs to showcase raw lyrical ability outside of a studio single.
