Jay Rock

Jay Rock, born Johnny Reed McKinzie Jr., is an American rapper from Watts, Los Angeles, known for his gritty, aggressive delivery and vivid street storytelling. He holds a notable place in West Coast hip-hop history as the first artist signed to independent label Top Dawg Entertainment, and is a founding member of the loose collective Black Hippy alongside labelmates Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q and Ab-Soul.

After years of mixtapes, Jay Rock broke through commercially with «All My Life (In the Ghetto)» featuring Lil Wayne and will.i.am, which helped fuel the release of his debut album Follow Me Home in 2011. His sound draws on hard-hitting West Coast production, blending raw narrative lyricism with an unpolished, aggressive vocal tone that distinguishes him from more melodic peers.

Beyond his solo work, Jay Rock has built a reputation through high-profile collaborations, including his Grammy-winning verse on Kendrick Lamar's «King's Dead».
