James Taylor

James Taylor is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist widely regarded as one of the defining voices of the early-1970s singer-songwriter movement. Born in Boston and raised largely in North Carolina, he first recorded for the Beatles' Apple label before his breakthrough came with his second album, Sweet Baby James, in 1970 — a record that established his warm baritone, intricate fingerpicked guitar style, and confessional songwriting as a genre touchstone.

His catalogue includes enduring standards such as Fire and Rain, Carolina in My Mind, and You've Got a Friend (written by Carole King, with whom he shares a close and enduring musical bond), alongside hits like How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) and Handy Man. Across sixteen studio albums released since 1968, Taylor has moved fluidly among folk, soft rock, country, and pop influences while maintaining a plainspoken, melodic core.
