About the artist
Jackie Hill Perry is an American author, poet and hip-hop artist from St. Louis, Missouri, known for combining spoken word poetry with Christian hip-hop rooted in personal testimony. She first built a following in the spoken word scene before signing to the label humble beast, releasing her debut album «The Art of Joy» in 2014.
Her music draws on rap and R&B textures to explore themes of faith, identity and personal transformation, addressing her upbringing, past experiences with trauma, and her journey to Christian faith with unusual candor for the genre. Tracks such as «The Fall», «Woman», «My Life As A Stud», «Lamentations» and «Better» reflect this confessional, testimony-driven approach that distinguished her from more conventional Christian rap acts of the period.
After her debut album, Perry stepped away from music for an extended period, during which she became a widely read Christian author, published multiple books, and co-hosted the podcast «With the Perrys» alongside her husband, fellow spoken word artist Preston Perry. In 2024 she announced a return to music, signing with Reach Records, marking a new chapter after a decade primarily focused on writing and speaking.
