Injury Reserve

Injury Reserve was an American alternative hip-hop trio from Tempe, Arizona, formed by producer Parker Corey and rappers Ritchie with a T and the late Stepa J. Groggs, who met around 2013 and began recording together almost immediately. Their early output — the mixtape Depth Chart, the EP Cooler Colors, and the mixtape Live From the Dentist Office, recorded in the dental office of a family member of Corey — established the group's loose, jazz-inflected take on hip-hop.

The group's sound was defined by Groggs and Ritchie's charismatic, conversational rapping style paired with Corey's inventive, boundary-pushing production, which drew on jazz rap, glitchy electronic textures and abrasive alternative hip-hop. Songs like «Knees», «Jailbreak the Tesla» and «Oh Shit!!!» showcase this mix of playful hooks and experimental instrumentation, while the group continued to build critical acclaim with mixtapes like Floss.

Injury Reserve's music grew increasingly adventurous and genre-defying over time, incorporating elements of electronic and rock music alongside rap, making them a notable and distinctive presence in the alternative hip-hop scene of the late 2010s. The death of member Stepa J. Groggs marked a profound turning point for the group and their subsequent work.
