InI (hip hop group)

InI was an American hip hop group active from 1990 to 1997, composed of Rob-O, Grap Luva, Ras G (also known as I Love H.I.M.), Marco Polo (Jolomite) and DJ Boodakhan. The group recorded its debut album in the mid-1990s under the wing of acclaimed producer Pete Rock, signing to his newly founded label Soul Brother Records.

In 1996 the lead single «Fakin' Jax» became an underground hit, built on Pete Rock's signature soulful, sample-driven production and the group's tight, conversational rapping style, heard also on tracks like «Grown Man Sport», «Center of Attention» and «Step Up». Despite the buzz, the full album was shelved and remained unreleased for years.

The material eventually surfaced on Pete Rock's compilation Lost & Found: Hip Hop Underground Soul Classics, which gathered previously shelved projects. Though InI was never commercially active again after 1997, the album's influence on underground rappers, MCs and producers has been significant, and the group is often regarded as a kind of hip hop cult legend, further burnishing Pete Rock's reputation as one of the genre's great producers.
