About the artist
Illionaire Records is a South Korean hip-hop label founded in Seoul in January 2011 by rappers Dok2 and The Quiett, two of Korea's most influential figures in the trap and hip-hop scene. The label quickly became a hub for a new generation of Korean rap, built around a shared aesthetic of luxury imagery, hard-hitting trap production, and a business-minded, entrepreneurial approach to hip-hop that mirrored American labels like Maybach Music Group.
Beenzino was the first artist signed to the label, and Illionaire went on to work with and feature a rotating cast of collaborators, releasing joint mixtapes and compilation projects such as «Illionaire Gang» that showcased the label's roster and sound. Tracks like «연결고리 (YGGR)», «가 (Go)» and «11:11» reflect the label's signature blend of braggadocio, trap beats and tight technical rapping, and its members appeared frequently on Korean television and in the broader Show Me the Money ecosystem, including remix versions of their songs performed on the show.
On July 6, 2020, Illionaire Records announced via Instagram that it was ending its run after what it called the label's ten-year journey, following the conclusion of Dok2 and Beenzino's contracts. Despite its closure, the label is remembered as one of the defining forces in modern Korean hip-hop, shaping the sound and business model of the genre for a decade.
