About the artist
Ice Cube, born O'Shea Jackson in South Central Los Angeles, is one of hip-hop's most influential figures, first as a founding member of N.W.A and later as a groundbreaking solo artist. His writing on N.W.A's landmark 1988 album Straight Outta Compton helped define the gangsta rap genre, portraying the realities of life in South Central with unflinching, confrontational lyricism.
After leaving N.W.A in 1989 over financial disputes, Ice Cube launched a hugely successful solo career beginning with AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, followed by a string of acclaimed albums that combined sharp social commentary with vivid storytelling. Tracks like «It Was a Good Day» and «Check Yo Self» became genre landmarks, showcasing his ability to blend narrative detail, political critique and West Coast funk-influenced production. His diss track «No Vaseline», aimed at his former N.W.A groupmates, is regarded as one of the most devastating in rap history.
Beyond music, Ice Cube built a major career as an actor, writer and producer, starring in films such as Boyz n the Hood and the Friday and Barbershop franchises, while continuing to release solo albums.
