House of Pain

House of Pain is an American hip-hop trio formed in Los Angeles in the early 1990s by Everlast (Erik Schrody), Danny Boy O'Connor and DJ Lethal. The group built its identity around Irish American pride, mixing gritty East Coast-style rap with anthemic hooks and rock-friendly energy that set them apart from the West Coast G-funk sound dominant at the time despite being based in LA. Their self-titled 1992 debut, produced largely by DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, spawned the massive hit «Jump Around», one of the most recognizable and enduring party anthems in hip-hop history, still a staple at sporting events decades later.

Following the success of «Jump Around» and the crossover rap-rock remix of «Shamrocks and Shenanigans», House of Pain toured with the Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine, cementing their appeal to both hip-hop and alternative rock audiences. Their second album went gold, but creative differences led the group to split before completing further work together.

After the breakup, DJ Lethal joined nu-metal band Limp Bizkit, while Everlast launched a hugely successful solo career, most notably with the multiplatinum acoustic-rap hybrid album «Whitey Ford Sings the Blues». House of Pain has periodically reunited for festival appearances and club shows, often performing alongside Everlast's backing band, keeping their legacy as one of the defining Irish American voices in hip-hop alive.
