Hemp Gru

Hemp Gru is a Polish hip-hop duo from the Mokotow district of Warsaw, formed by rappers Wilku and Bilon, whose roots in rap date back to the mid-1990s. They made their debut in 1998 with the track «Na Krawedzi», featured on the compilation «Hip-Hop'owy Raport Z Osiedla», one of the foundational releases documenting Poland's early street-rap scene.

The duo built its reputation on a raw, uncompromising street style, delivering blunt, hard-hitting lyrics without sugarcoating or wordplay for its own sake. Their long-awaited debut album, «Klucz», released in November 2004, consolidated this identity, presenting the same tough, unfiltered urban voice that had defined their earlier recordings and cementing Hemp Gru as one of the authentic representatives of Polish street rap.

Over the years, songs such as «To jest to», «Droga», «Amnezja», and the two-part «Zycie Warszawy» became staples of their catalog, reflecting themes of everyday hardship, loyalty, and life in Warsaw's neighborhoods. Hemp Gru remains associated with a generation of Polish rap acts that prioritized lyrical directness and street credibility over commercial polish.
