Heems

Heems, born Himanshu Kumar Suri, is an American rapper from Queens, New York, best known as a member of the alternative hip-hop trio Das Racist, which gained attention for blending absurdist humor with sharp cultural and political commentary. After Das Racist disbanded, Heems built a solo career marked by more personal and introspective work, addressing his South Asian-American identity, mental health, and the experience of New Yorkers after 9/11.

His sound moves between rap, rock textures, and electronic production, often collaborating with producers who push his music beyond conventional hip-hop boundaries. Songs such as «Soup Boys (Pretty Drones)», «Sometimes» and «New York City Cops» showcase his blend of confrontational lyricism and vulnerability, while tracks like «WOMYN» and «Home» reflect his willingness to experiment with genre and tone.

Beyond music, Heems founded the independent label Greedhead Music and has written about music and South Asian culture for outlets including the Village Voice and Stereogum. He is also a member of Swet Shop Boys, a group formed with actor-rapper Riz MC and producer Redinho, further extending his exploration of diaspora identity through hip-hop.
