Grünt

Grünt is a French hip-hop collective and media project founded in 2011, built around freestyle sessions filmed and shared online rather than around a fixed lineup of rappers. The project became a launching pad and meeting point for the French-speaking rap scene, inviting artists from France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada to freestyle over beats in a stripped-down, direct format that let raw lyrical skill speak for itself.

Beyond the freestyles, Grünt expanded into long-form interviews, mixtapes called GrünTapes where guest artists curate an hour of music, and Grüv selections put together by the collective's own members. It also partnered with Radio Nova to produce La Süre Mesure, a radio show built on its own concept. In 2018 Grünt released its first official compilation, Nova Grünt Tunes, spotlighting emerging francophone rappers, followed by a second volume in 2019.

Over time Grünt has become less a group and more an institution within French rap culture, a recurring stage where both established and up-and-coming MCs test themselves and where listeners discover new names entering the genre.
