Grits

GRITS is a Christian hip-hop duo from Nashville, Tennessee, made up of Stacey «Coffee» Jones and Teron «Bonafide» Carter. Before launching their own recording career, both were backup dancers for dc Talk, which connected them to Gotee Records, the label that released their 1995 debut, Mental Releases. Their early sound leaned into a jazz-hop style before shifting toward a more mainstream hip-hop approach on later albums.

The duo's biggest commercial moments came with 1999's Grammatical Revolution, featuring the single «They All Fall Down», and The Art of Translation, which produced the salsa-flavored hit «Here We Go» and the fan favorite «Ooh Ahh (My Life Be Like)», featuring their mentor TobyMac. That song became one of their signature tracks and has been reworked in multiple remixes over the years. GRITS built a reputation as pioneers of Christian rap, blending faith-based lyrics with genuinely competitive hip-hop production and flows.

After releasing nine studio albums and a greatest-hits compilation, Jones and Carter founded their own label, Revolution Arts, through which they independently released Reiterate (2008) and Quarantine (2010) before stepping back from the group to focus on solo projects. Their catalog remains a touchstone within Christian and gospel rap circles.
