About the artist
Griselda is a Buffalo, New York record label and hip-hop collective founded in 2012 by Westside Gunn. Its core lineup brings together Gunn, his half-brother Conway the Machine, and their cousin Benny the Butcher, working closely with in-house producer Daringer, whose murky, sample-heavy beats became the collective's signature backdrop. The group's roots trace back to earlier Buffalo crews the members were part of in the 1990s and 2000s, giving their music a lived-in, street-level authenticity.
Griselda's sound revives a gritty, boom-bap-adjacent East Coast style built on raw storytelling, dense wordplay, and a mafioso aesthetic drawn partly from the label's namesake, drug trafficker Griselda Blanco. Tracks like «DR BIRDS», «Cruiser Weight Coke» and «Bang (Remix)» showcase the trio's individual voices trading over dusty, cinematic production, while cuts such as «Fire in the Booth, Pt. 1» highlight their technical rap ability in a stripped-down setting.
Over the 2010s, Griselda grew from an underground curiosity into one of the most respected names in independent hip-hop, eventually partnering with larger labels for wider distribution while keeping creative control. The collective is credited with reviving interest in hardcore, lyrics-first rap and has become a reference point for a new generation of East Coast artists.
