Gift of Gab

Gift of Gab, born Timothy Jerome Parker, was an American rapper from Sacramento, California, best known as one half of the duo Blackalicious alongside producer Chief Xcel. Emerging from the Solesides/Quannum collective in the early 1990s alongside acts like DJ Shadow and Lyrics Born, he built a reputation as one of the most technically gifted MCs in underground hip-hop, celebrated for his dense internal rhyme schemes, rapid-fire delivery and playful wordplay.

Blackalicious released acclaimed albums such as «Nia» and «Blazing Arrow», with the latter featuring guests like Zack de la Rocha and Ben Harper, and the track «Alphabet Aerobics» became a widely referenced showcase of lyrical dexterity, later covered and sampled by numerous artists. Gift of Gab also pursued a solo career with records including «4th Dimensional Rocket Ships Going Up», exploring more introspective and socially conscious themes.

His work is often cited as a touchstone of West Coast underground rap, valued for its musicality and craftsmanship rather than commercial trends. He continued recording and performing until his death in 2021, leaving a legacy as one of the era's most respected technical rappers.
