Ghostpoet

Ghostpoet, born Obaro Ejimiwe on 18 January 1983, is a British singer, songwriter and producer whose work sits at the intersection of spoken-word poetry, hip hop cadence and dark, minimal electronic production. He emerged from South London's underground scene, releasing his debut EP The Sound Of Strangers via Brownswood Recordings in 2010, before signing to Play It Again Sam for the bulk of his subsequent output.

His debut album, Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam (2011), introduced his distinctive half-sung, half-spoken delivery over sparse, bass-heavy beats, and earned him a nomination for the Mercury Prize. He followed it with Some Say I So I Say Light (2013) and Shedding Skin (2015), the latter featuring a collaboration with Etta Bond and marking a shift toward a more live, band-driven sound that drew comparisons to post-punk and art rock as much as electronic music.

Throughout his career, Ghostpoet has resisted easy genre classification, moving fluidly between rap-inflected electronic tracks and moodier, guitar-based textures. His introspective lyrics, often dealing with alienation, urban life and melancholy, combined with his instantly recognisable low, weary vocal tone, have made him one of the more distinctive voices to emerge from the UK's post-dubstep and bass music era, influencing a generation of artists blending spoken word with electronic production.
