About the artist
Ghostface Killah, born Dennis Coles, is a rapper from Staten Island, New York, and a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Emerging in the early 1990s as part of the collective's original nine-member lineup, he quickly distinguished himself with a dense, stream-of-consciousness flow and a vivid, cinematic approach to street storytelling that set him apart even within Wu-Tang's famously varied roster of voices.
His solo career began in earnest with 1996's «Ironman», following a pivotal co-starring role on Raekwon's 1995 classic «Only Built 4 Cuban Linx…». Ghostface built on that momentum with 2000's «Supreme Clientele», widely considered one of the finest Wu-Tang solo albums and a high-water mark for abstract, wordplay-heavy lyricism in hip-hop. His raw emotional delivery and willingness to blend soul samples with grit made his catalog distinct from his peers.
Over the following decades he continued to evolve, from the crime-narrative concept of 2006's «Fishscale» to genre-crossing collaborations such as 2015's «Sour Soul» with BADBADNOTGOOD. His stage name, borrowed from the villain of the 1979 martial arts film The Mystery of Chessboxing, reflects the kung-fu mythology woven throughout Wu-Tang's aesthetic. Ghostface remains one of the most respected and influential MCs of his generation.
