Geto Boys

Geto Boys are a rap group from Houston, Texas, widely regarded as pioneers of Southern hip-hop. Formed in the late 1980s on the Rap-A-Lot Records label, the group went through several early lineup changes before settling into its classic trio: Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill. That configuration produced the group's most acclaimed work and helped establish Houston as a serious force in a genre then dominated by New York and Los Angeles.

The group's sound combined dark, cinematic storytelling with unflinching depictions of street violence, paranoia, and crime, drawing both commercial success and significant controversy over explicit content. Their 1991 album «We Can't Be Stopped» remains their defining statement, anchored by the haunting single «Mind Playing Tricks on Me», a track frequently cited as one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever recorded for its psychological depth and vulnerability.

Beyond that landmark record, Geto Boys built a catalog of gritty, influential releases including «Mind of a Lunatic» and «Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta», the latter later popularized in film. Individually, Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill pursued substantial solo careers, with Scarface in particular becoming one of the most respected lyricists in Southern rap.
