GELO, born LiAngelo Robert Ball on November 24, 1998, in Chino Hills, California, first became known as a basketball player before establishing himself as a rapper. Alongside his brothers Lonzo and LaMelo, he was part of the Chino Hills High School team that went undefeated on the way to a 2016 state championship, and the Ball family's high profile in basketball circles gave him an early public platform that he later leveraged in music.

After a professional basketball career that included a stint overseas and time in the NBA G League, GELO transitioned into rap, building buzz with guest appearances alongside Lonzo before releasing his own material. His breakout came with «Tweaker», a hook-driven, high-energy track that turned into a viral hit and introduced him to a much wider audience than his basketball background alone had reached, later reinforced by a remix featuring additional guest verses.

GELO's music leans into playful, hard-charging West Coast-inflected rap and pop-rap, with songs like «Can You Please», «Law N Order» and «Shook Da Game» building on the momentum of his breakout single.
