Gaither Vocal Band

The Gaither Vocal Band is an American Southern gospel group founded by songwriter and producer Bill Gaither, built around close vocal harmony and a rotating lineup of tenor, lead, baritone and bass singers over the decades. The group grew out of Gaither’s broader work as a gospel songwriter and the wider «Gaither Homecoming» series of concerts, recordings and video specials that revived and popularized Southern gospel for later generations.

Musically the band is defined by tight, layered male harmonies over piano- and organ-driven arrangements, drawing on traditional Southern gospel and quartet singing while also incorporating contemporary Christian and country-tinged elements. Signature songs and staples of their catalogue include «He Touched Me», «There Is a River» and «Sometimes It Takes a Mountain», reflecting themes of faith, redemption and testimony common to the genre.

Over the years the Vocal Band has featured a number of respected Southern gospel vocalists passing through its ranks, and the group has remained one of the most recognized names in the genre, closely tied to the Gaither Homecoming brand that has brought gospel quartet singing to broad television and touring audiences.
