G-Dep

G. Dep, born Trevell Coleman in Harlem, New York, was an American rapper who rose to prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s as a member of Sean «P. Diddy» Combs' Bad Boy Records roster. He arrived at a moment when Bad Boy was expanding beyond its core R&B and hip-hop sound, and G. Dep's laid-back, party-oriented delivery fit the label's shiny-suit era of glossy, radio-friendly hip-hop.

His debut album, «Child of the Ghetto» (2001), produced his signature hit «Special Delivery», built around a sample that gave it an instantly recognizable, feel-good groove; the single climbed into the Billboard Hot 100 top ten and became one of the more memorable Bad Boy singles of its era, later reinforced by a remix. Follow-up tracks like «Let's Get It» and «Everyday» kept him within Bad Boy's commercial, dance-friendly lane, while «Blast Off» and «Keep it Gangsta» leaned into grittier, more street-oriented material.

His second album, «Ghetto Legend» (2003), failed to replicate the crossover success of his debut, and his career largely faded from the mainstream afterward. G. Dep's story took a dramatic turn when, in 2010, he turned himself in to New York police in connection with a 1993 murder, was later convicted, and received a lengthy prison sentence — a case that became one of the more sobering footnotes in Bad Boy Records' history.
