Funkmaster Flex

Funkmaster Flex, born Aston George Taylor Jr., is an American DJ, radio host, and producer who rose to prominence in the East Coast hip-hop scene of the 1990s. He is best known for his long-running show on New York's Hot 97 radio station, which became a launching pad for exclusive freestyles from major rappers over the decades.

Before becoming a radio fixture, Flex built a reputation as a producer, working on mixtapes and collaborations with artists like Biz Markie and The Notorious B.I.G., helping shape the sound of 90s New York hip-hop. His compilation «60 Minutes of Funk» achieved gold certification and stands as a landmark release from that era.

Flex's on-air freestyles became legendary events in hip-hop, hosting rappers such as J. Cole and Mos Def for raw, unrehearsed sessions that often generated major buzz. He is also known for his outspoken presence in hip-hop culture and industry controversies, including his role amplifying the mid-2010s Drake ghostwriting dispute. Decades into his career, Flex remains one of hip-hop radio's most recognizable and influential voices.
