Frijo

Frijo, born Emanuel Matías Rodríguez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is an Argentine-Uruguayan rapper and trapero. He spent much of his childhood and adolescence in Uruguay, growing up in Playa Verde, before returning to Argentina in his teens, giving his career a dual national identity.

He cut his teeth in the Argentine freestyle battle scene, competing in El Quinto Escalón — the underground competition that launched many of the country's leading trap and rap artists — before stepping away from battling around 2017 to focus on recording original music. His breakthrough came through a collaboration with producer Bizarrap on one of the BZRP Music Sessions, which brought him rapid mainstream recognition and millions of streams within months.

Frijo's sound sits at the intersection of trap, rap and R&B, marked by melodic hooks layered over dark, minimalist beats typical of the Argentine trap wave that emerged from the freestyle circuit in the late 2010s. Tracks like «Like Boss» and «Tonto» reflect his blend of introspective lyricism and party-ready production, placing him among the generation of battle-rappers-turned-recording-artists who reshaped Latin American urban music.
